Usability

I have tried to implement good usability throughout my website. The web usability guidelines that I have implemented are hierarchy, clear navigation, scannable, omit needless words, and obvious links. For hierarchy, I have created folders to hold various webpages, images, documents. An example of these would my images folder, css folder, modules folder, assignments folder, and the game maker folder. Each folder holds information that pertains to the name of folder in general and then the name of each file is specific to the purpose it holds. I have also created a clear navigation as seen above and a clear footer as seen below. Both the footer and the navigation are easily distinguished from the other parts of the webpage and are named according to what they pertain to. I have made my pages scannable so that my audience will have to read very little to understand what each section pertains to. For the content of this website I have broken it down into small chucks so that my audience won’t have to search through lots of text to find what they are looking for. I have omitted needless words in this website so that only what is needed is displayed. I also left in enough words for my audience so that they will understand exactly what I want in their projects and challenges. I have created obvious links in my website so that it is easy to tell what can be clicked on and which cannot. I have also used the site’s name MIGOnline as the logo to help my audience remember my website.

In order to increase my site rankings in the Google search engine, I have appropriately added "MIGOnline" to alt tags in the images, in the titles of links, and throughout my webpage as a whole.

ROI

My return on investment for my website is that my audience will find, read, and use my website. The purpose of the website was to have a place for my class to look at projects and challenges without having to be in class. That is the purpose of my website, and by following web standards and making it more usable for those coming to my website, I decrease the possibility of annoying or frustrating my audience. By increasing my search engine rankings, I am making it easier for people to find my website.
